The increasing aggression and war policies of imperialist powers continue with a new wave of occupation in Syria and Rojava. Recently, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a faction of al-Qaeda, along with the Syrian National Army (SNA) supported by the fascist Turkish state, and other Islamist militias in the region, launched a major occupation attack on the city of Aleppo. Following the withdrawal of the Assad regime, Aleppo was occupied, forcing hundreds of thousands of Kurdish, Yazidi, Arab, and Christian residents to flee the region.
These attacks cannot be separated from the broader imperialist rivalries and the wars waged against the peoples of the Middle East. NATO forces, embroiled in the ongoing conflict with Russia in Ukraine, aim to open a new front to stretch Russia’s capacities. Meanwhile, the Zionist Israeli state targets cutting off the supply route from Iran to Hezbollah in Lebanon. Although the fascist Turkish state claims to support the Palestinian people, it indirectly supports Israel through commercial relations, such as oil shipments.
Despite labeling HTS a terrorist organization, NATO member states and the Turkish state demonstrate their collaboration with this group by providing drone training for operations in Ukraine. Driven by neo-Ottoman ambitions, the fascist Turkish state propagates narratives such as “Aleppo is Turkish and Muslim to its core” and collaborates with these dissenter of ISIS under the guise of “opposition forces.”
Despite recent false claims of pursuing “peaceful resolutions,” the fascist Turkish state continues its comprehensive assaults on the Kurdish people. While arrests and government-appointed trustees persist domestically, Turkey supports jihadist groups in Syria, posing a direct threat to Rojava. The objective is clear: to fracture the Kurdish movement and dismantle the Rojava Revolution along with its achievements. For a long time, the Turkish state has targeted Rojava’s infrastructure, including electricity, water, gas facilities, and factories, using drones. Now, with ground threats, it advances through the SNA militias under its control. This assault has been initiated under the name “Operation Dawn of Freedom,” starting with a movement towards the Şehba and Tel Rifaat regions.
Imperialist powers, the fascist Turkish state, and the Zionist Israeli state are sacrificing the region’s peoples for their own interests. However, the spirit of the Rojava Revolution remains unbroken. Today, the people of Rojava and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) are mobilizing to resist these attacks and defend the hard-won gains for which they have fought. Social opposition groups in many countries around the world are supporting this mobilization.
As ATIK, we call on all local and migrant workers, laborers, and democratic forces across Europe to stand in solidarity with the resistance defending the hard-earned gains in Rojava. Let us support this struggle with street demonstrations and public actions!
